About the Abstract Paintings
Abstract painting is the style closest to Radka Gicheva, and it makes up most of her work. A canvas starts without a fixed plan: a first layer of gesso, sometimes combined with recycled materials, fabric or other found objects, sets the texture, and colour is then built up in intuitive passes of acrylic, ink and pastel. Shapes and figures appear along the way; in Mysterious Faces N2, several female faces reveal themselves within the layers.
The collection ranges from small works on paper and intimate canvases to large statement pieces, in palettes from soft neutrals to bold colour. Most works are mixed media, a few are acrylic on canvas, and Coral and Blue was painted in oil with a palette knife. Every painting is signed on the front and back, varnished twice and delivered with a Certificate of Authenticity.
